German 210

German 210 (GR 210) offers an introduction to the cultural trends in German-speaking countries from 1800 to Modernity, including aspects of daily life, tradition, philosophical trends, and other cultural artifacts in art, film, music, and architecture. We will read texts by a diverse cadre of writers (in terms of generation, political affiliation, relationship to German culture, place of residence, personal history, literary style) and from a variety of genres (novel, novella, drama, film, essay, poetry, short story).
