Since we’re switching to a largely virtual format for the rest of the spring 2020 semester, the CAS Advising Commons wanted to communicate how you can continue to access advising, especially with summer and fall registration approaching.
Of course you are always encouraged to stay in regular contact with your faculty advisor, whether by email, phone, or any other medium you and they determine makes sense.
The CAS Advising Commons will continue to be available virtually for general academic and career advising support, utilizing the video conferencing software Zoom. This will be available during the same times as the physical location was prior to spring break, Monday through Friday between 9am and 4pm (and a little later a couple of days). The CAS360 home page has a direct link to the new Virtual Advising Commons page, where you can get general information about how the virtual format will work, some quick video tutorials on joining a Zoom meeting, and direct links (based on the current time and day of the week) to connect with an advisor in the Commons immediately. We know this will take some getting used to, but Zoom is a really robust program that should make this change to a virtual format relatively smooth.
Additionally, please remember the CAS360 site has abundant academic and career advising information, so you may want to explore the site to refamiliarize yourself with all the information and resources available there. The Course Selection Information page may be especially helpful as you prepare for registration. Information for students preparing to study abroad is also updated; those students can review everything they need to do for CAS as they prepare.
Finally, the Learning Commons is offering a drop-in virtual workshop to provide helpful information on succeeding with online learning. This will occur Friday, March 20th, 1:30 – 2:30pm. If you’d like to join, here is the link for the Zoom meeting.
Please let us know if you have any questions. We’re to help as you transition to a virtual format, and we wish you all the best in finishing the semester strong.
