Travelers Neurodiversity Initiative – What makes this opportunity unique?

  • We build a “2nd front door” as part of our Neurodiversity @ Work internship initiative interview process. Since the Fall of 2016, this initiative has yielded 41 interns and 9 full time conversion hires. 
  • Neurodiversity training is required for all managers involved in this initiative.
  • As part of our broader Disability hiring efforts, there have been 40+ hires via partnerships with the state Department of Occupational Rehabilitation & a local non-profit disability focused agencies in our Hartford (Viability) & Saint Paul (LifeWorks) offices.

Alternative Assessment Process Overview

  • Candidates will attend a 30-minute information session on Microsoft Teams in which Travelers will provide an overview of the company, the mission, purpose and priorities of each respective function and a detailed outline of next steps in the selection process.
  • For every candidate that remains interested in continuing with the interview process, the second part would be a one-on-one 30-minute conversation with the program manager or recruiter via Microsoft Teams. During such conversation, the candidate will be able to learn more about the program and the specific role(s) that are available that summer.
  • Conversation starters will be provided in advance to help the discussion flow. Candidates will also be provided the role(s) overview(s) in advance. This will allow a candidate to learn more about the opportunity before they head into their technical interview. Following the previous conversation, the candidate will let us know if they are interested in a technical interview with the hiring manager.
  • The technical interview with the hiring manager will be a 45-minute Microsoft Teams conversation. Questions will be provided to the candidate in advance to allow them to prepare for the conversation. 
  • The recruiters will then reach out with an application status update the week following that conversation.

Key Information:

  • Location: Hartford, Connecticut with hybrid arrangement (3 days required in the office/2 days at primary residence) or may choose to work every day in the office. These positions are full-time (40 hours a week).
  • Start Date: June 3rd, 2025
  • End Date: August 8th, 2025.  Interns will need to be available for the full 10 weeks – there is not paid time off or unpaid time off allowed.
  • Visa Requirement: Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the future need for sponsorship.

Actuarial Intern:

  • The Travelers Actuarial Internship provides students with an excellent opportunity to gain first-hand business experience and receive valuable on-the-job training that adds value and impact to the business. 
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have completed freshman year of their bachelor’s degree in college before the start of the internship.
  • As an intern you will:
  • Learn about actuarial positions available in the insurance industry
  • Attend networking and training events
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Be matched 1:1 with a team and manager for the summer

Business Insights & Analytics Leadership Development Program (BI&A LDP) Intern:

  • Obtained or pursuing a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) bachelor’s or master’s degree required.
  • Must have at least completed sophomore year by summer of 2025.
  • You will have the opportunity to interact and network with many levels of leadership and management through company-wide events such as the Intern Symposium and community outreach events.
  • You will work together with fellow interns to develop and present solutions to relevant business and analytics topics.
  • You’ll utilize Travelers data to draw meaningful business insights to enhance our business results by working within traditional areas of business insights & analytics and emerging capabilities within artificial intelligence, big data, and social media/consumer/text analytics.
  • Our interns work with key stakeholders in our business to identify challenges and create actionable solutions using a blend of business and technical skills.
  • You will work with relational databases, reporting systems, discovery tools, or pilot new proofs of concept.

Engineering Development Program (EDP) intern:

  • Obtained or pursuing a technology or business-related undergraduate degree with technology minor; or a graduate degree with a technology minor; or the successful completion of a state-licensed accelerated technical learning program in technology (ex: bootcamp) teaching foundational software development skills.
  • Applicants who at minimum will complete their freshman year by summer 2025 and at maximum will complete their junior year by summer 2025 are eligible for this opportunity.
  • You will be exposed to professional work experience in technology with planned activities providing you with insight into business, technology, and the many career options at Travelers. 
  • You will receive a combination of hands-on experience, access to a technology curriculum, as well as a mentoring program.
  • With many company-wide events such as Intern Symposium and community outreach events, you will have the opportunity to interact and network with many levels of leadership and management. 
  • You will be expected to work together with fellow interns to develop and present solutions to relevant business and technology topics.
  • Individuals will work as a member of one of our Travelers technology teams; some assignments are executed independently, but all interns work in collaboration with a team.
