Department of Economics

Economics is the study of how society manages its scare resources as we produce, distribute, and consume goods and services. Economic students learn the necessary analytical skills and economic intuition used in understanding our increasingly complex global society through firm, household, and government behavior. Issues discussed in economics can range from determining the price a firm should set for a product to assessing the necessity of rules and regulations in sports leagues. Our economics program is ideal for students interested in careers in fields such as economics, consulting, financial managing, market research, and banking.

Double Major

Given that economics complements a number of academic disciplines and career paths, students who study economics at Quinnipiac University often double major.  Past students have added a second major in Political Science, Finance, English, Legal Studies, Marketing, Management, Entrepreneurship, Philosophy, Mathematics, History, and Theater.  The forthcoming Applied Statistics and Data Science major particularly goes well with an Economics major.

Career Development

The Department of Economics is committed to helping our students succeed in their desired careers.  Each year, the department takes students on job shadowing opportunities at The Travelers Companies, Inc. and Aetna Inc.  Economics graduates have chosen to work at institutions such as Goldman Sachs, Pepsi, The Wall Street Journal, and Wells Fargo.

Graduate School

Are you interested in pursuing graduate school? With a B.S. in economics from our program, students are prepared for M.A. and Ph.D. economics programs through mathematical and analytical skill building. These skills also provide foundations for a number of other graduate school paths, such as MBAs and law degrees. An education in economics prepares you for graduate programs in economics, business, law, public administration, management, and medical school.
