  • Major & Minor Requirements
    Law in Society majors study law from humanistic and practical perspectives. Students focus on critical thinking, writing and oral presentation skills, within the study of law. Our required internship places students in law office settings to see the practical side of law. Many Law in Society majors are continuing on to law school, work as paralegals, or enter other varied professions such as business, compliance, government, and public policy.

  • Research & Experiential Learning

    Law in Society places each student individually into an internship in a law office setting during his or her senior year. Students will meet with Professor Michelle Miller when they register for the Senior Internship Seminar to discuss their interests, future plans, and desires for an internship placement. Professor Miller works with internship supervisors to match each student with an internship that provides a positive learning experience.

    Prior internship placements have included the State’s Attorney’s Office; the Connecticut Attorney General; Shipman & Goodwin; Wiggin & Dana; Fasano, Ippolito & Lee; Yale University Office of the General Counsel; Children’s Probate Court; Carbonella and Walsh; Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services; and many other law firms of various sizes.

    Students can also engage in research opportunities with faculty and participate in organizations like Mock Trial to gain valuable experience!

  • Explore Your Future

    Many Law in Society majors are continuing on to law school, work as paralegals, or enter other varied professions such as business, compliance, government, and public policy. As part of the major requirements students complete a legal studies certificate approved by the American Bar Association.
