BIO 385, “Explorations in Biology”, is a hybrid course that is offered in the fall, spring and summer.  It must be taken concurrently with the student-designed project/experience.

Projects/experiences might include shadowing a professional, research off campus, summer research on campus (e.g. QUIP-RS), community-based service or research, internships, study abroad/away or travel abroad experiences, or creative, co-curricular or other works on or off campus. All projects/experiences must relate to the biological sciences and occur outside the classroom in a setting that reflects that of your mentor’s profession. Research projects that are solely literature/web-based, even if interdisciplinary, will not be approved without a significant component planned for a professional setting.

  • Attend an Experiential Learning Info Session (all Experiential Learning Info Sessions for the semester have passed)
  • Talk to Dr. McGinnis (courtney.mcginnis@qu.edu), the Experiential Learning committee, your advisor and/or research faculty
  • Use your networking skills to find a project mentor
  • The Experiential Learning application process (for Bio385) is currently online. To apply:
    • Watch the instructional video “Submitting a BIO 385 application through QUCC“
    • Review the instructions for the BIO 385 application
  • Submit your project proposal for BIO 385 by April 1st (for Fall 2023) or Nov 1st   (for Spring 2023).
