Sponsored by the online journal Double Helix. Open to sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Fall semester, 2022.
Students will collaborate as an editorial team to work with professional manuscripts, from submission through publication, acquiring experience with all phases of the editorial process. Under the direct guidance of the associate editor, with oversight by the editor, students will learn how to
- correspond with authors
- solicit reviewers
- recommend decisions for acceptance/rejection/resubmission
- review revisions
- copyedit manuscripts
- create layouts
- proofread galleys
- organize a volume for publication
Interns will attend editorial meetings, held one evening per week for three hours, and commit five additional hours per week to the editing process.
Students who complete the internship will receive three course credits, be permanently listed on the journal site as Assistant Editors for that volume, and gain practical hands-on experience applicable to editorial positions in all fields.
Double Helix: A Journal of Critical Thinking and Writing is a publication of Quinnipiac University’s College of Arts & Sciences and is hosted by Colorado State’s WAC Clearinghouse, a site that receives over three million views annually.
