CELL AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

Envision spending your summer working with energetic colleagues and inspirational leaders, all while gaining world-class experience in one of the most dynamic organizations in the pharmaceutical industry. This is a reality for Abb Vie’s Experiential Interns.

The Cell and Molecular Biology Intern will work with the Biologics department and contribute to ongoing efforts in Neuroscience, Immunology and other Biologics Projects. Performing essential bench cell and molecular biology experiments the Intern will help with assay development and drug screening and characterization. Direct experience opportunities will include cell culture, molecular biology, and assays such as ELISA, FACS, Western Blot, cell-based assays.

The Intern will make use of problem solving, critical thinking, and effective written and oral presentation skills in a highly matrixed team environment. Meticulous work habits and excellent record keeping, and organizational skills are needed as the Intern will independently generate precise, reliable and reproducible data in a timely manner. Candidate must demonstrate experimental precision and strong data interpretation skills and should possess understanding of core discipline.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Characterize antibodies by cell-based assays, ELISA, Western Blot, and FACS
  • Maintain cell cultures including cell lines and primary cells
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of research and project activity in electronic notebook
  • Perform routine tasks competently and independently and generate reliable and consistent results
  • Analyze and critique results, noting significant deviations; communicate the results clearly and timely with supervisor and team members
  • Learn and understand new experimental techniques
  • Understand and ad to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials, controlled drug and radioactive compounds, GxP compliance, and animal care w applicable.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Currently enrolled in university, pursuing Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD’s in Biology, Immunology, Pharmaceutical Sciences or other related field
  • Must be enrolled in university during the internship period
  • Strong communication and organization skills, especially the ability to work across multiple scientific disciplines and functions
  • Ability to perform productively and efficiently within a dynamic work environment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in biologics drug discovery
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture, cell-based assays such as reporter gene-based assays, immunocytochemistry, flow cytometry, and biochemical assays such as ELISA, immunoprecipitation and Western Blotting
