Sigma Delta Pi is the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society (La Sociedad Nacional Honoraria Hispánica). Students receive special membership pins, certificates, and honor cords at the induction ceremony, which is conducted in Spanish and held every spring. Family and friends proudly gather to watch students light their own candles from a mother candle—placed beside an arrangement of crimson and gold carnations representing the colors of the honor society and the Spanish flag—and recite the induction phrase “Spanías Didagéi Proágomen”, which translates to “Let us continue under the teaching and guidance of the Spanish language.”
