Our summer internship programs are committed to enhancing students career paths through building leadership opportunities and relationship building connections.

Summer interns spend 10-12 weeks gaining valuable experience with real world scenarios in the pharmaceutical industry. Our goal is for this experience to introduce interns to our organization, our values, and possible future career paths.  To date we have had over 150 interns join us within the US Commercial Organization (USBU), R&D, and our Oncology business unit.

US Commercial Organization (USBU)

The US Commercial Organization (USBU) offers exciting opportunities to have exposure to the US commercial side of our organization. Interns who join us within this business unit will have the opportunity to work within some of our therapeutic areas like our Neuroscience, Rare, GI business units, Commercial Operations, Patient & Market Access, Communications, HR, Legal, or Medical Affairs. Some typical projects consist of sales & marketing, branding activities (like newsletter creation and web development), management exposure, and data science.

Research & Development

Research & Development (R&D) offers a range of opportunities for interns to perform meaningful work, ranging from human resources to pharmaceutical sciences to business operations, and more. Interns within this department get involved with data analytics, laboratory research, and operational activities. There are also many career and personal development events, including industry and department-specific training, networking, and interaction with a variety of professionals with diverse backgrounds and experiences. R&D interns work with teams across San  Diego or the greater Boston area through a combination of virtual and onsite work models.

Oncology Business Unit

Intern in the  Oncology Business Unit (OBU)  have the opportunity to gain experience in a commercial organization; roles vary year-to-year depending on organizational needs.  Examples of past internship roles have been within the following functions: communications, marketing, medical affairs, and operations. Our goal is to push interns to develop new skills and behaviors by solving real-world business challenges to get them ready for the professional work world.

Intern Events

To ensure that we give interns the opportunity to enhance their careers, Takeda offers networking and workshop events throughout the summer. These are a few of the events:

• Lattes with Leaders: Get to Know Takeda via Takeda Past Interns Panel, department discovery, & virtual lab tours. Interns get the opportunity to discuss with leaders from various departments. This conversation offers insight into different career paths, advice, and networking opportunities.

• Professional Development: Quality Conversation, resume and interview workshop, rock your LinkedIn profile. Learn how to refine your skills for an interview, resume building, and branding sessions specific to LinkedIn.

• DE&I events: Cause Network Call/Panel, Health Equity at Takeda, & Diversity in Clinical Trials. Discover the roles and functions within our organization

• Networking/Bonding Virtual Events: weekly lunch buddy system, coast-to-coast chats, & virtual games. Interns are randomly paired with a group of interns every week with the aim for interns to make meaningful connections.
