MeshEd Collective Summer Teaching Internship 2024

About MeshEd Collective + Action Labs | The Summer Innovation Lab at CREC is funded by a summer enrichment grant from the Connecticut State Department of Education and administered by CREC Magnet Schools to provide innovative summer enrichment programming to current and prospective CREC students entering grade 6 – 8 in the Hartford Region.
MeshEd Collective, PBC, in partnership with the Lavinia Group, will administer a four-week summer academic and enrichment program at three CREC School sites: CREC Academy of Aerospace and Engineering, The CREC Ana Grace Academy of the Arts, CREC Academy of Science and Innovation.
In the morning, middle school learners will participate in the award-winning Lavinia Group’s RISE Summer Learning Program in ELA and Math featuring high quality, culturally responsive academic enrichment. In the afternoon, students will have social lunch and recess time, followed by engaging career exploration in MeshEd Action Lab courses taught by MeshEd lead instructors and local undergraduate and graduate school students.
Internship Roles & Responsibilities | MeshEd Collective’s paid 6 week summer internship program consists of two parts: (1) 2 week training in curriculum writing and our teaching practices, and (2) apprentice-teaching our action lab courses to students in grades 6-8. Guided by the MeshEd Core Team, comprised of some of the most innovative, experienced education leaders in the country, interns will gain valuable experience in the day-to-day workings of an education public benefit corporation and contribute to our real-time development of:
- curriculum writing and research in innovative K-12 education design
- Curriculum development and research will have a special focus in architecture and urban design, digital animation, AI, sustainable cooking
- action lab final student projects and digital assessment/e-portfolio design
- inclusive education practices that foster collaboration among diverse teams
- business plans and strategic partner research and support strategies
- marketing, communications, and digital media research and support strategies
Summer Internship Schedule | June 24, 2024 – August 2, 2024, Monday to Friday, 9 am to 4:30pm EST
Weeks At-a-Glance | The internship program consists of 2 weeks of training and 4 weeks of teaching. You will support the development and launch of the following 7 action labs (click here for descriptions): 1) Art of the Podcast Lab, 2) Coding for Game Design; 3) Sustainable Fashion Lab; 4) Art for Climate Action Lab; 5) Digital Animation & AI, 6) Art of the Graphic Novel and 7) Art of the Personal Essay
- Pre-Weeks (May): We come together in 2 virtual evening meetings to meet the team and intern cohort as well as ground in core MeshEd project-based learning practices. Interns will also be expected to complete asynchronous training webinars independently.
- Weeks 1-2: Interns will learn the core principles of Mesh Ed’s project-based learning pedagogy and begin curriculum design, research, and writing. Interns will also brainstorm and begin personal project topics, managing their own processes with support.
- Weeks 3-6: Interns will co-teach the Action Lab using 12 pre-written course modules with guidance from the leadership team.
Compensation – $17-19 per hour for undergraduates and $23-25 per hour for graduate students based on experience.
