An internship with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is a form of experiential learning that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional setting.
The Risk Management Intern will be part of the Society’s Legal and Risk Management team, reporting to the Director of Risk Management, while also working with Corporate Counsel and General Counsel. The Risk Management Intern will work on a variety of projects, including legal research, drafting legal documents, insurance management, claims management, contract review, policy and procedure review and assisting in other risk management projects. The Risk Management Intern will attend meetings as appropriate to observe the role and function of risk management in a large organization.
This is a remote paid internship available for Summer 2024. The hourly rate for this position is $20.
What You Will Do:
- Perform legal research – 25%
- Review insurance policies – 15%
- Contract review – 15%
- Manage claims – 5%
- Assist with updating content in RMIS system– 5%
- Review policies and procedures – 20%
- Assist with other risk management related projects – 15%
What You Will Bring:
- Risk & Insurance Management or Business Management degree.
- Currently 2L or 3L student at an accredited law school, preferred.
- Ability to work 12 weeks, 15 hours/week.
- Intermediate/advanced computer skills including internet searches, online databases, and Microsoft Office suite.
- Naturally curious and analytical.
- Discerning, with strong attention to detail.
- Independent, self-starter who operates autonomously while being a collaborative team player.
- High integrity, strong work ethic.
- Enhanced communication skills.
- Access to reliable internet (required for remote or hybrid positions).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software for e-mail, document, and spreadsheet creation/management – specific training will be provided.

The hourly rate for internships is $15, except when noted differently above OR where local minimum wage exceeds that figure, in which case the hourly rate will be the higher of the two.
