Annual Department of Modern Languages, Literatures & Cultures Events

Colegio Delibes – Every semester a representative from Colegio Delibes comes from Salamanca, Spain, to speak to students about this wonderful summer Spanish-language immersion program. Students enjoy refreshments and engage in dialogue on the wide range of opportunities this program offers.

International Cabaret – Created by Associate Professor of German and Dean Mary Paddock, the annual international cabaret is a Fall semester event filled with laughter and fun. Students and professors alike perform skits, play instruments, read poems, sing in celebration of a beautiful array of languages and cultures!

Performance and Workshops Series – The department hosts internationally renowned guest in performances such as “Across the Borderlands” by Japanese intercultural guitarist Hiroya Tsukamoto and “The Red Servant” by multilingual poet Paolo Valesio.

Lecture Series – The department organizes a lecture series on themes related to literature and culture, such as the upcoming talk, “Dante, Augustine and the Question of Freedom” by Sterling Professor of Humanities at Yale Giuseppe Mazzotta (Spring 2019).

Sigma Delta Pi – The department rewards students who demonstrate excellence in Spanish coursework with membership in Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society (La Sociedad Nacional Honoraria Hispánica).
